If God is calling you to become Catholic or complete your sacraments of initiation, this is the year!

The Catholic sacraments of initiation are Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. While many receive baptism as an infant or young child, the sacraments require faith and formation in order to more fully appreciate the gifts of God present in these sacred encounters. Over the course of the next 6-8 months, we are offering multiple pathways for sacramental preparation.

Sacraments of Initiation for Adults

Young Adults and Adults of the Parish participating in OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) will receive the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil on Saturday, March 27, 2027. Classes begin on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 10:00 am in Classroom 1 in the Education Wing and continue weekly on Sunday mornings throughout the year leading up to Easter. Classes are required.

Sacraments of Initiation for Children

Children of the Parish in 2nd grade (and higher) will receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation on Monday, December 7, 2026 and First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 1, 2027 through PSR (Parish School of Religion). Children of the Parish in 7th grade (and higher) will receive the sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, May 22, 2027. Registration is now open. Classes meet in the Education Wing on Sundya mornings throughout the year and start on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Classes are required.

Other Sacramental Reminders

Baptisms: Infants and children under 8 are eligible to receive the sacrament of baptism anytime throughout the year (excluding Lent and certain masses) at one of our weekend parish masses. All requests must be filled out online here: https://www.bakhitacolumbus.org/baptism

Catholic Schools: Children enrolled in St. Josephine Bakhita School or another Catholic School will receive sacramental formation as part of their curriculum at school and do not need to register for PSR.
